Vigdís Bjarnadóttir

My paintings have always revolved around capturing nature and celebrating it. I am deeply inspired by its beauty, but also by its vulnerability, structure, ferocity, and the pure joy it emanates. To me, nature is a powerful metaphor for life.

Through colour on canvas, I try to express the impressions and emotions that the landscape evokes in me. My work is shaped by my connection to my country, its land, flora and fauna. I am also fascinated by how landscapes influence people and shape the way we live and behave.

Iceland is, in many ways, a challenging place to live. Its harsh nature, active volcanoes, glaciers and floods remind us constantly of its power. Over generations, we have learned to live with these forces and, in doing so, to respect and appreciate the land that surrounds us.
